Did you know?
A major review called the Acupuncture Evidence Project examined the growing research on acupuncture across a wide range of health presentations. Many people in Australia continue to seek acupuncture as part of their approach to managing pain, stress and general wellbeing.
What Stress Feels Like for Many People
Stress shows up differently for everyone. Some people notice tightness in their shoulders or jaw, others feel mentally overwhelmed or wired. Some feel flat, restless, tense or describe stress as “always being on.”
From a Chinese medicine point of view, these patterns feel familiar and have been discussed for thousands of years. Even with this long history, I always explain things in a simple, modern way so everything makes sense.
How People Use Acupuncture When Stressed
Many people book acupuncture when they want support during stressful periods, a calm place to reset, or help unwinding after work. Others are looking for support alongside their existing healthcare or want time away from daily pressures.

What to Expect in a Session
Your appointment starts with a relaxed conversation about how stress affects you physically, mentally and throughout your day. This helps me understand your patterns and tailor the session to your needs.
A treatment may include gentle acupuncture, moxibustion (warmth), acupressure, cupping (if suitable) or simple breathing or lifestyle suggestions. You’ll rest in a quiet room with soft lighting, warm towels and calming music.
How Chinese Medicine Understands Stress
In Chinese medicine, stress can influence the flow of Qi through the Liver, Heart, Spleen and the channels that run through the shoulders and neck. Patterns may involve Qi constraint, heat, irritability or overthinking. These can contribute to tension or discomfort in different areas of the body.
Acupuncture aims to support healthy flow again so your body can shift out of “fight or flight” and move toward a calmer, more settled state.
Common Questions
Does acupuncture help with stress?
People often feel calm or relaxed after a session, but everyone responds differently. I always work gently and within your comfort level.
Is acupuncture safe?
I use sterile, single-use needles and follow AHPRA and Chinese Medicine Board infection-control standards.
Can I combine acupuncture with counselling, psychology or medication?
Yes. Acupuncture is often used alongside care from GPs, psychologists, counsellors and other allied health professionals.
Is acupuncture suitable during pregnancy?
Acupuncture is often used during pregnancy, but every situation is different. Please let me know if you are pregnant so we can plan your treatment safely and appropriately.
What should I wear?
Loose and comfortable clothing is best.
How many sessions will I need?
This varies from person to person. We’ll talk about a plan that suits your schedule and goals.
