Over 2,000 Years

Chinese medicine has developed over millennia as a complete health system.

Registered in Australia

Chinese medicine is one of Australia’s nationally registered health professions.

Used worldwide

Millions of people across Asia, Europe and Australia use Chinese medicine each year.

Did you know?

Chinese medicine includes acupuncture, herbal formulas, diet therapy, cupping and heat therapy — all guided by one unified diagnostic system that looks at the whole person.

What Is Chinese Medicine?

Chinese medicine is a complete healthcare system that has developed over thousands of years. It takes a whole-person view of health, looking at how symptoms, lifestyle, sleep, digestion, energy and emotional wellbeing all interact. In the clinic this means I aim to understand the broader pattern behind your main concern, not just the symptoms on their own.

In Hervey Bay, I use Chinese medicine as the framework for treatment. From this framework I draw on acupuncture, herbal formulas, heat therapy, cupping, dietary guidance and other methods depending on what suits your presentation and goals.

How Chinese Medicine Understands Health

Chinese medicine describes the body using its own functional models. Some of the core ideas include:

  • Qi: the processes that warm, move, protect and regulate the body.
  • Yin and Yang: the balance between rest and activity, cooling and warming, substance and movement.
  • Channels: pathways that connect different parts of the body and guide treatment point selection.
  • Patterns: Chinese medicine groups symptoms into patterns such as “Liver Qi stagnation” or “Spleen Qi deficiency,” which guide treatment decisions.

During your appointment I use tongue and pulse observation, detailed questioning and discussion to understand which patterns may be present. Treatment is then tailored to your individual pattern and comfort level.

Treatment Methods Used in the Clinic

Chinese medicine includes a broad range of techniques. In appointments I may use one or several of the following:

These techniques sit under the Chinese medicine umbrella and are chosen based on your presentation, preferences and treatment goals.

What to Expect at a Chinese Medicine Appointment

1. Detailed History and Assessment

Your first visit includes a discussion of your main concern, medical history, medications, lifestyle and overall health picture. Tongue and pulse observations may also be used.

2. Chinese Medicine Pattern Diagnosis

From this information I develop a Chinese medicine pattern. This guides which treatment methods are appropriate and how often sessions may be helpful.

3. Treatment and Follow-Up Plan

You will usually receive treatment in your first appointment unless something makes this unsuitable. Together we outline a plan that may include follow-up visits, diet or lifestyle guidance and realistic review points.

Chinese Medicine and Modern Healthcare

Many people use Chinese medicine alongside their GP, physiotherapist, psychologist or other practitioners. I encourage open communication with your medical team and support an integrated approach to care.

While Chinese medicine uses its own traditional framework, I also stay informed about current research where available and prioritise safety, informed consent and collaboration with your existing healthcare providers.
